DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY
The Department of Psychiatry affiliated to Chengalpattu Medical College is one of the dynamic departments in the clinical side of the hospital. Mental health can affect daily life, relationships, and even physical health. Mental health also includes a person's ability to enjoy life - to attain a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. So the motive of our department is to cater the mental health needs of the population, remove the stigma with respect to Mental Health and to promote mental health as a whole both in the individual and community level. It was budded in the year of 1998 with one Assistant and Senior Resident. Now we have

OTHER INFORMATION :
 
  • Every year UG-CME and State Level Quiz Program is held for the Undergraduate MBBS Students. Around 40 colleges all over India participates each year
 
  • Every year in the month of October our department celebrates World Mental Health Day. MBBS,School of Nursing, DGNM Students participates in various competition like Short story writing, Poetry Writing, Painting, Essay writing, Mime show competition on the Theme of World Mental Health Day of that year. Last year competitions were held in the Theme of “Young People and Mental Health in a changing World “.
 
 
  • We have started CHEMCO Suicide Prevention Help line which is a 24*7 help line program. The helpline number is being displayed in the college and hospital premises and in our department. The helpline mobile is being given to Post Graduates in turns and confidentiality is being maintained.
 
  • This year we conducted PG-CME with “Community Psychiatry” as the theme and eminent speakers from this field and from District Mental Health Program addressed the gathering.
