Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
We welcome you to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital. The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology affiliated to Chengalpattu Medical College dates back to days before 1965. The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a part and parcel of CMCH was started as a District Hospital with 250 beds. Soon it bloomed into a Medical College and Hospital with 50 under graduate students in each basic department. Now it is an institution with 100 Undergraduate students in all basic departments with superspeciality in Neurology, Cardiology, Urology and Neurosurgery.
At present the department provides comprehensive antenatal and gynaecological services catering to the population in and around Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram. We provide tertiary care services to all the Taluk hospitals extending from St. Thomas Mount in North to Kelambakkam in East to Acharapakkam in South and Kancheepuram in West.
Our department provides excellent treatment and care for patients with normal and high-risk pregnancies, and we expertly address a wide range of gynecologic and women's health concerns, including: Breast Care, Endometriosis, Family Planning, Fertility & Reproductive
Health, Malignancies, Hysterectomy Alternatives, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology, Pelvic Floor Disorders, Pregnancy & Childbirth, Routine Gynecologic Care and Vulvar Diseases.

University Examination details
The examinations for postgraduates are conducted during the month of March and September every year. At the end of first year all postgraduates have to take an examination in basic sciences and the obstetrics and gynaecology theory and clinical examination are taken by them at the completion of their course.

The Institute runs Antenatal OPD and screens all pregnant women and will pick up high risk cases.
Some high risk cases being managed are gestational hypertension and its complications like antepartum eclampsia, imminent eclampsia, post partum eclampsia, Epilepsy complicating pregnancy, BOH, Heart disease complicating like RHD, severe anemia with CCF, puerperal
psychosis, PPH both primary and secondary it includes referral cases also, GDM,DM, HIV, HBsAg+ antenatal mothers.there is ICU facilities to give special care for complicated cases.
We have24*7 all laboratory services and blood transfusion facilities
TRAINING SERVICES:
The Institute is a training centre for

- Laparoscopy and minilaparotomy training for medical officers
Routine gynaecological cases like, prolapse, PID, Leucorrhea,DUB,Bartholin cyst, ovarian cyst, PCOD, Primary and secondary infertility, Primary amennorrhoea are treated, adolescent Gynaec OPD is also there and also septic abortion, ectopic pregnancy, twisted ovarian cyst are also treated efficiently.
Neonatology services
The Institute is well equipped with neonatology unit with ventilators, exchange
transfusions done, RDS are managed by surfactants USG facilities were available in OPD, Wards, labour wards and in the departments.
Universal screening for GDM is being done routinely; all cases are managed by protocols formed by evidence based medicine Pap smear, cervical biopsy, colposcopy done here.

We welcome you to the Department of family welfare. The department of family welfare affiliated to Chengalpattu Medical College dates back to days before 1965, when it was started as a district head quarters hospital with 250beds. Very soon it bloomed out to be a teaching institution with 50 under graduate students.

Post natal clinic
Post natal clinic is running daily for both the mother and baby, encouraging the mother for the exclusive breast feeding, breast care and encourage for pelvic floor exercises.
MTP CLINIC:
MTP clinic is undergoing daily and here MTP is undergoing by the act of MTP and the procedures undergoing are

These procedures training are given to the primary healthcare medical officers and the district head quarters medical officers and the post graduates in the part of their curriculum.
CONTRACEPTION CLINIC:
The couples are offering contraceptive methods under cafetaria method.The couples are counselled about the available method of temporary and permanent method of contraceptions and we will avail their needs.
Condom and oral contraceptive pills are regularly issued to the needful couples .We are availing Emergency contraception to the couples also providing E- pills,chayya antara injections and the permanent method of sterlisation such as,

All the above mentioned training also be given to the PHC and District Medical Officers and for the staff nurses.
